January is National Mentoring Month

As professional coaches, we often turn to mentors—whether formally for certification or informally to navigate our business growth or personal goals. This January, we invite you to reflect on the mentors who have shaped your journey and consider how you can pay it forward by becoming a mentor.

National Mentoring Month, established in 2002 and recognized annually by the U.S. President, is a campaign dedicated to celebrating the profound impact mentoring has on individuals and communities. Mentoring empowers people to reach their full potential by developing employees, guiding young professionals, or inspiring college students.

For coaches, mentoring is more than guidance; it’s about fostering meaningful connections that drive personal and professional growth. This month, let’s honor the mentors who have supported us and explore how we can create a ripple effect through mentoring. Together, we can build more engaged, fulfilled, and empowered individuals and organizations.

Member Snapshot - Margaret Kathryn "MK" Boehme

Our Member Snapshot is an ongoing glimpse of your fellow members, giving you a great network of resources available to you and reminding you why it is so valuable to belong to ICF-North Texas. This month our feature member is Margaret Kathryn “MK” Boehme, founder of Choose Coaching, LLC.
Why Coaching? Why Your Niche? I’m Margaret Kathryn “MK” Boehme, a Board-Certified Coach and founder of Choose Coaching, LLC, which I launched in 2021. My journey began in medical recruiting, where I discovered my passion for working with people and developed deep insights into the diverse roles and personalities within a medical system. As my career evolved, I transitioned to high-tech and manufacturing, recruiting strategic, high-value candidates for Fortune 200 companies, RPOs, and executive search firms.

Along the way, I discovered my true calling: coaching. Inspired by my transformative experience with my own coach, Mina Brown, I realized that guiding others to align their goals and achieve meaningful outcomes is where I thrive most. Today, I work with senior leaders, emerging leaders, and teams, as well as consult on the talent management lifecycle for startups and small businesses.

I am passionate about working with disruptors—individuals who drive innovation and change. Helping them align their big ideas with actionable strategies and watching them succeed is endlessly rewarding. At Choose Coaching, LLC, my goal is to empower clients to navigate challenges, maximize their potential, and create a lasting impact in their personal and professional lives.
Why Did You Choose to Be a Member of ICF-North Texas? Joining the International Coaching Federation (ICF) has been a transformative experience, connecting me with a vibrant community of coaching professionals. As an active member of the ICF-North Texas chapter, I serve on the Membership Team alongside Cheryl Close, helping foster a welcoming environment. I also participate in the ACC LINC group, which supports coaches pursuing professional growth.

Through ICF, I’ve gained valuable learning opportunities, including actively participating in peer-to-peer training and global collaboration, which have expanded my skills and network. ICF has provided me with mentorship and solidified my place in the coaching world, empowering me to contribute meaningfully to others’ journeys.

What Is Your Favorite Client Story? One of my favorite client stories involves a tech C-suite leader in the Bay Area who faced an early retirement decision. After 30 years of building and selling his own companies, he found himself out of a job at not quite 55. Uncertain about his next steps, he reflected on his future during our coaching relationship.

With his financial needs already met, he sought a new way to use his expertise in service to others. Rediscovering early dreams, he joined a communal farm, where he learned small-scale farming and applied his technical expertise to improve efficiencies. His inspiring 360-degree pivot is now helping address challenges faced by small farms in competing with larger markets. This story highlights the transformative potential of embracing new opportunities and using expertise to make a meaningful impact.

Expertise and Credentials: I am a Board-Certified Coach (BCC) and am working on my ICF ACC accreditation. I am also a Certified Coach and hold a CCMC from Positive Coaching Solutions. Additionally, I have an M.S. in Human Resources Management from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota and a B.S. in Philosophy from Hendrix College in Arkansas.

Coaching Services: I offer coaching across a diverse range of specialties including Career, Corporate, Executive, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Internal/Organizational, Leadership Development, Multicultural, Personal, Life, Small Business, Entrepreneur, Team and Group Coaching.

We Value Our Volunteers

Our award-winning chapter is successful and works so well because of our volunteers. Volunteering increases the value of ICF membership in so many ways. Sharing your time and talents as a volunteer helps us expand the impact of professional coaching throughout North Texas and beyond. Volunteers benefit, too. Volunteering can help you build your network and grow your coaching practice. Serving on a committee is a great way (for new members, especially) to get involved and meet other professional coaches who are potential collaboration partners, allies, source of referrals, and friendships.
