The ICF Code of Ethics: What’s New, What’s Not, and How to Stay Grounded When It Gets Messy
Jim Smith, PCC

Do you know the key clauses of the ICF Code of Ethics? Do you know why we even have a code of ethics? If met with an ethical challenge, what would you do?

As ICF coaches, staying current on ethics is part of our ongoing professional development—and an important part of what distinguishes ICF-credentialed coaches. Our Core Competencies and Code of Ethics provide a shared foundation for how we show up, make decisions, and uphold professional standards.

In this interactive virtual session, Jim Smith, PCC, will help us explore the Code in a practical, interactive, and engaging way. Participants will:
  • Identify key elements of the ICF Code of Ethics relevant to professional coaching practice.
  • Apply ethical reasoning to common coaching dilemmas involving confidentiality, boundaries, conflicts of interest, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Use the ICF Code of Ethics as a framework for making sound decisions when ethical situations are ambiguous or complex.
And if you’re facing an ethical question or challenge in your own coaching experience, bring it with you. The goal is not simply to know the Code, but to become more confident applying it.

CCEUs for this Program: 1.25 Core Competency credits

Before the session, we encourage you to take a few minutes to review these ICF resources, which provide a helpful foundation for the discussion and can help you identify questions or situations you may want to bring to the session.
