Giving Thanks: Pay It Forward “Gold Elephant Book Exchange”

Overview

• Connect – this is a members only event, so this is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow members better (personally & professionally)
• Learn – share knowledge informally during the book exchange
• Enjoy – Camaraderie + creative responses (and humor) during the event

 

What you need to do:  

  1. Bring a gift-wrapped book that is meaningful to you – ideally, a book from your own library to ‘pay it forward'.  Place your name on the gift-wrapped book.
  2. Be prepared to share the following when your book is chosen:  What 1 or 2 'golden nuggets' of wisdom in this book had meaning for you?  and What do you hope the next person finds in this book?  

Please note:  In order to participate in the book exchange part of the program, members need to bring a gift wrapped book to share.

 

What to expect during the event:

 

Each member upon arrival to the event will turn in their gift wrapped book and receive a number.  When your number is called, you get to choose a gift and the person who brought the book will quickly share their wisdom.  This continues until all gift wrapped books are gone.  Each member will get an opportunity to share their wisdom during the event!  

 

This is a special end of year event designed for members only.  The event will be similar to a traditional white elephant gift exchange.  Unlike ‘white elephants’ (which are often useless), the books are ‘gold elephants’ that will contain some unique nuggets of wisdom when opened by the recipient!  Discovering those golden nuggets will be part of the event as we talk about the books we give (and the ones we receive)!
